HYDERABAD, 6 September — Acting swiftly on a Supreme Court directive, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to reintroduce mid-day meal scheme in primary schools that will benefit seven million students from Grade 1 to 4. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu made the announcement to re-introduce the mid-day meal scheme from Oct. 2 during a video conference with officials late Wednesday. The announcement came a day after the Supreme Court warned the states not implementing the mid-day meal scheme that it could ask the central government to stop grants to them. A month ago Governor C. Rangarajan also advised the state government to reintroduce the scheme to contain a high dropout rate in state schools.
