JEDDAH, 15 September — The International Indian School, Jeddah (IISJ) has lost a case in the appeals court over the ownership of the building that houses the school’s boys section.
The Court of Cassation at Makkah in its ruling said that Mahmood Al-Maimani, a Saudi businessman, is the owner of the building and the plot of land on which the building is constructed. The ruling was passed on Aug. 25.
The court also ordered the school to pay Al-Maimani SR 6.8 million in final settlement of dues.
Al-Maimani said a three-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Abdullah Bin Mohammed ibn Obaid, Justice Mohammed ibn Ali Al-Fawwad and Justice Ibrahim ibn Abdullah Al-Ajlan ruled that “I’m the rightful owner” of the boys’ section building and the land.
“Now that I have won the case, I am going to claim damages also from the school, besides dues,” Al-Maimani said.
A case was filed by the school’s managing committee in Mahkama Kubra (high court) questioning Maimani’s claim over the building. But the court ruled against the school. The committee appealed the verdict in the Court of Cassation which upheld the lower court’s judgment.
