JEDDAH, 17 September — US authorities have detained about 18 Saudis for violating visa and traffic regulations and other reasons, according to Essam Al-Thaqafi, head of the consular section at the Saudi Embassy in Washington.
However, he said there are no Saudi political prisoners in US jails.
Speaking to Al-Watan daily, Thaqafi said the number of Saudi students in the US had dropped dramatically. “More than 60 Saudi students did not come back to resume their university studies in the US after the summer vacation, because of delay in getting visas,” he said.
