AL-AHSA, 20 September — Abdul Rahman Al-Jeraisy has been elected president of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI) and Dr. Fahd Al-Sultan its secretary-general. The two were elected at a meeting of the council’s executive committee here yesterday.
Jeraisy, who is chairman of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry replaces Abdullah Zainal. Sultan comes in place of Osama Kurdi, who had resigned from the post.
Abdul Rahman Al-Rashid, chairman of the Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Adel Kaaki, chairman of Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry were elected vice presidents.
Arab News learned that Abdul Kareem Al-Shayie, chairman of Al-Jouf chamber, went out of the meeting hall protesting the method of electing the council’s president and vice presidents.
At present the council’s presidency is rotated between the chambers of Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province. But Shayie wanted other chambers also to be given a chance.
Jeraisy criticized Shayie’s action and said he should have presented his opinion to the council for debate instead of imposing it on others.
Sultan, 46, was selected for the secretary-general post from 23 economists, administrators and academics. He holds a doctorate degree in development management and public administration from New York University.
Sultan is currently assistant deputy minister of municipal and rural affairs for planning and programs and associate professor at the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, King Saud University. He was chairman of the working committee which prepared the seventh development plan for the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs. He has authored several books and research works.
