JEDDAH, 23 September — Saudi Arabian Airlines will operate 16 cargo flights from Japan to the Kingdom to bring in Toyota auto spare parts, according to Hatem Zarrae, assistant vice president for services and air cargo sales.
He said the national airliner would operate Boeing 747 cargo planes (which can carry 100 tons each) and MD-11 planes (with a capacity of 70 tons each) to transport the spare parts.
He said the first of these flights has already arrived from Osaka at King Abdul Aziz Airport in Jeddah as per an agreement signed between the Japanese company and the airliner.
He said Saudia would continue to operate the cargo flights from Osaka and Narita airports until Oct. 12. He expected more such flights to ensure quick supply of Toyota parts to the Kingdom.
“The agreement with Toyota reflects Saudia’s capability to meet the needs of air cargo,” Zarrae said, adding that Saudia has a large fleet of cargo planes including Boeing 747s and MD-11s.
