RIYADH, 26 Sept. – About 100 Filipino community leaders in the Central Region will be attending the Philippine Embassy’s "Orientation Seminar on Workers’ Protection and Welfare Assistance" tomorrow at the embassy’s chancery lobby.
Organized by the embassy’s labor section, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), the seminar is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In a letter forwarded to community leaders, the embassy said the need orientation seminar is aimed at providing the so-called Accredited Community Partners (ACPs) of POLO and other community leaders the necessary information and guidelines in the delivery of welfare assistance and protection to distressed workers.
The seminar is part of the series of information dissemination being conducted by the embassy and is in line with the terms of partnership with the various community organizations. At least three officers or representatives from each community organization are invited to attend.
Among the topics to be discussed are steps and procedures in handling labor cases, counseling, conciliation and mediation techniques in case resolution, rights and obligations under the Saudi labor law, procedures and remedies at the Saudi labor office, Saudi welfare office, among others.
Also up for discussion are the programs and services of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), together with the role of Assistance to Nationals Section and the Consular Section of the embassy.
Ambassador Bahnarim Guinomla is to deliver a message.
Aside from Labor Attaché Jainal Rasul, Jr. and other POLO staff, welfare and case officers, who will tackle their assigned topics, Minister Mariano Dumia will discuss the role and functions of Assistance to Nationals Section, while Vice Consul Germinia A. Usudan will talk on "Selected Consular Matters."
