RIYADH, 27 September — Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed is scheduled to meet with the Malaysian Siamese twins, who were recently separated by Saudi surgeons at King Abdul Aziz Medical City, when he visits the Kingdom next month.
Malaysian Ambassador Mukhtar Ahmad told Arab News that the prime minister would also meet with the Saudi medical team led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeea, which conducted the successful surgery on Sept. 18.
The ambassador commended the humanitarian gesture of Prince Abdullah, the regent, who ordered the authorities to make all arrangements to separate the twins at the hospital. "We deem it a great service to Malaysian people," he said.
Ahmad visited the twins — Mohammed and Ahmed — to inquire about their condition. Rabeea, who is deputy executive director for health affairs at the National Guard, said that the twins’ condition had improved considerably and they have started talking.
