TRIVANDRUM, 5 October — A court here yesterday granted conditional bail to Sobhana George, the controversial Congress party legislator in the southern state of Kerala. George was hospitalized after she fainted in the court after her arrest by Crime Branch detectives for alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy against Fisheries and Tourism Minister K.V. Thomas.
But Chief Judicial Magistrate N.J. Jose, who remanded her to judicial custody on Thursday, directed George to be available for questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at any time and not to try to tamper with evidence.
George should produce two bonds of Rs. 10,000 each and two personal sureties. She will be allowed to go home after being discharged from hospital. The magistrate on Sept. 30 issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against her after the SIT informed him that the legislator was the third accused in the case.
