SRINAGAR, 8 October — A senior minister was beaten up by army troops following an argument here yesterday.
State Food and Supplies Minister Bashir Ahmed Nengroo, who is the ruling National Conference’s candidate from Pulwama constituency, was traveling in his car along with his son when he was stopped by the troops at Badami Bagh cantonment area.
Police said Nengroo came out of the car and told the soldiers that he was a minister and had to reach his home in Pulwama early but the troops insisted on searching his car and the passengers, which started the altercation.
Police said one soldier pounced on the minister and beat him with rifle butts. His son who tried to intervene was also beaten up.
The minister and his son had to take refuge in a nearby police station where they lodged a complaint. Nengroo suffered a fractured jaw and two broken teeth.
