JEDDAH, 10 October — If you have any Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in mind who deserves to be honored, nominations to the Bagong Bayani Award is still open.
This announcement came from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Jeddah, which said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has extended the deadline to Nov. 20.
"We encourage everyone to send in your nominations through this office for onward transmittal to Manila one week before the deadline," said a press statement issued yesterday by POLO-Jeddah officer-in-charge Carlos O. Sta. Ana.
A primer on the Bagong Bayani Award said any Filipino citizen who worked overseas, either land-based or sea-based, may be nominated, provided the worker has:
o regularly remitted income to his/her family through established Philippine banks (proof of regular bank remittance must be shown);
o must have served employer for at least two years;
o has no derogatory record;
o has earned the trust and confidence of his/her employer;
o has made a significant contribution to the well-being of his/her countrymen;
o has a contract that have been processed through the POEA.
Nominations may be made by an employer, a manning or placement agency, industry association, co-worker, or other people.
The requirements for submission are:
o duly accomplished nomination form;
o endorsement letter from the nominee’s employer;
o photocopy of current passport;
o proof of regularly bank remittance;
o copies of awards or citations, if available;
o 7 pieces of colored 2 in. x 2 in. ID pictures.
Nomination forms are available at the POLO offices at the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah or the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.
The Bagong Bayani Award is administered by the Bagong Bayani Foundation in honor of the sacrifices rendered by OFWs.
