JEDDAH, 19 October — Thirteen persons, including five Aramco employees, were killed and 13 injured in eight separate accidents in various parts of the country on Thursday.
The Aramco employees perished on the Hufouf-Faisaliya Road after their cars collided head-on. The accident occurred when three of the five employees were coming to Al-Ahsa from their office in Faisaliya and two of them were going to the company for duty, Al-Jazirah reported yesterday quoting traffic department sources.
The sources attributed the accident to poor visibility caused by heavy fog and narrowness of the road. The cars collided when one of the drivers tried to overcome a bus without noticing the car coming from the opposite direction. Witnesses said bodies of the five youths had shattered on both sides of the road as a result of the impact of the collision.
According to the Arabic daily, Hufouf-Faisaliya Road has been the scene of many accidents as a result of heavy traffic and narrowness of the road. Residents in the area have called upon authorities to construct a two-way road to cut down the accident rate.
In the Northern Border Province, three persons — a Saudi and two Kuwaitis — died as a result of another car crash, 45 km west of Arar.
On the Riyadh-Najran Road, two persons were killed and three injured. In Mahayil Aseer, one person was killed and four were injured in a three-car pileup.
A stray camel caused another road accident on Ais-Yanbu Al-Nakhl Road, killing a two-month-old baby boy and injuring his parents.
The Mandak tourist road witnessed the collision of three cars on Thursday, injuring three persons. In Oqbat Shiar, one person was killed and another injured when their car overturned after its driver fell asleep on the wheel.
At the southern entrance of Mahayil, traffic was blocked for several hours on Thursday after an oil tanker collided with a trailer truck, Okaz reported.
