RIYADH, 20 October — Dr. Hamad Al-Manie, director of health affairs in the Riyadh region, has sacked the medical director of Muzahemiya General Hospital as part of a campaign against corrupt and negligent officials.
The director was fired for not checking medicines at the hospital’s main warehouse, which contained medicines that had long expired.
Manie took the action after a surprise inspection tour of hospitals in Thadek, Muzahemiya and Tamir, located on the road to Makkah, to review their preparations ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan when a large number of pilgrims pass by them to the holy city.
Manie also dismissed the medical director of Tamir Hospital for failing to deal with an emergency case and keeping outdated medicines at the hospital’s pharmacy.
The health affairs chief also punished an Indian nurse at Tamir Hospital for using contaminated water to treat a patient.
The nurse will lose a day’s salary.
Manie also ordered an investigation into the delay in issuing licenses to doctors working at public hospitals.
Meanwhile, Dr. Faisal Al-Bawaredy, director of primary healthcare at the Health Ministry, has fired the directors of the health centers in Tuwaik, Badr and Shualan for negligence in carrying out their duties.
