ALKHOBAR, 21 October — Sydney Leigh Fate Barger has died in California, USA. Co-founder of Selwa Press with her husband Tim Barger, she helped publish the best selling title, "Out in the Blue: Letters from Arabia – 1937 to 1940," which told a portion of the life and times of Thomas C. Barger, former president and CEO of Aramco.
Fate Barger was born in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, May 29, 1951. She was the daughter of D.R. Fate, who, when he retired, was senior vice-president of Aramco. According to Tim Barger, she had been raised in Abqaiq and "her love for all the best of Arabia, in those best of times, never ceased."
Fate Barger was diagnosed with cancer shortly before the release of "Out in the Blue." Her husband described her battle with the disease as "heroic and defiant."
"I mustn’t let her pass without notice, she was so determined in the struggle with her affliction and in the end left a gentle reminder for all of us to act boldly on our convictions, to take joy in our friends and family, to persevere in the face of adversity and, above all, to cherish the ones we love," said Barger.
