RIYADH, 3 November — Interior Minister Prince Naif yesterday called upon all government officials and Haj related organizations to exert maximum efforts to make the upcoming annual pilgrimage a resounding success.
He made the call after chairing a meeting of the Supreme Haj Committee in the capital city.
Prince Naif said the meeting was held as part of the government’s efforts to make all-out preparations for Haj and provide necessary facilities for the pilgrims to perform their religious duties peacefully and comfortably.
The meeting, which was attended by a number of ministers and governors including Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed, Madinah Governor Prince Muqrin and Haj Minister Iyad Madani, discussed major issues related to the Haj operation.
More than two million pilgrims including nearly 1.2 million from abroad are likely to participate in the Haj, which is scheduled to start on Feb. 9, 2003.
