KARACHI, 4 November — Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain dropped a bombshell here last night by announcing he would return soon. In a telephonic address from London, the MQM leader said he had decided to come back.
He, however, cautioned his followers he might be arrested or even assassinated after he lands in Pakistan.
Officials, speaking on condition they not be named, said the Muttahida leader might be arrested for being an absconder in a number of cases.
Altaf appealed to his followers to be ready to face any situation after he arrives in Pakistan. He urged his supporters to carry forward his mission in case he is assassinated.
Sources said Altaf was not satisfied with the performance of his party, especially after its poor show in the elections and decided to return home to reorganize it.
It was still not clear whether Altaf would be arriving alone or with his wife and baby girl.
