RIYADH, 4 November — Minister of Commerce Osama Faqeeh said here that the Kingdom was keen to respond positively to contemporary developments and global changes as well as promote cooperation with international institutions such as the World Trade Organization.
He was inaugurating a seminar yesterday on “The general agreement for trade services,” organized by the Commerce Ministry in cooperation with the WTO.
Faqeeh noted that the Kingdom had decided to join the WTO with a view to contributing positively to the system of world trade and participating in decision-making and protecting its interests in its role as one of the major players in the field of international trade.
He said the Kingdom in 2001 ranked 14th in the list of countries in terms of the value of commodity exports which amounted to $86.2 billion, 26th in terms of imports ($31.2 billion) and 21st in terms of trade services ($18.3 billion). (SPA)
