JEDDAH, 10 November 2002 — An unidentified person recently attacked a policeman in Qunfuda while he was raiding a hideout of overstayers, Al-Madinah reported yesterday. It said Hamad Mohammed Al-Kinani, a member of the special operation force in the Makkah region, was beaten with an iron rod by an identified illegal worker, while he was on duty with about 50 other officers. Kinani was admitted to Qunfuda General Hospital with head injuries and he underwent a complicated surgery. Doctors have said that his condition is stable. In another incident, a gang of thieves stole money and other valuables from the office of the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Taif, the Arabic daily said. The theft took place when officials were away for prayer.
