RIYADH, 18 November 2002 — The National Company for Cooperative Insurance is negotiating with some 15 companies to act as NCCI’s brokers in securing the motor insurance business from their clients.

This was disclosed to Arab News by Ali A.Al-Subaihin, assistant general (marketing & sales) of NCCI, who clarified that only those whose driving license is due for immediate renewal will have to take out third party insurance through NCCI or the 600 plus branches of the National Commercial Bank and Al Rajhi Banking and Investment Corporation.

In response to a question on the traffic police not accepting the motor insurance policies issued by other companies for the issuance of new driving license, renewal or replacement of existing or lost driving licenses, Al-Subaihin said the motor insurance law is to take effect from Ramadan 15 (Nov. 20).

As for procedure, he explained that photocopies of ID or Iqama, Rukhsa (driving license) as well as proof of age would be required. The applicant also has to specify the type of Rukhsa — commercial, private, light commercial, or heavy duty vehicle . He should also furnish contact information, such as postal address, phone/fax number and other relevant details.
