RIYADH, 19 November 2002 — A Saudi man, wanted on security charges, was wounded and captured after a shootout with police here on Saturday, an Interior Ministry spokesman said yesterday. “Mohammed Al-Sahim, wanted on security charges, tried to flee and opened fire at security forces who managed to arrest him after shooting him in the right leg,” the spokesman said. He said no policemen were hurt in the shooting, denying a report carried by the AFP news agency, which said eight policemen had been wounded in the firefight that took place in Al-Shifa district, south of Riyadh. Interior Minister Prince Naif also said no security personnel was wounded in the several-day hunt for the man who was wanted for terrorism. Speaking to the Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC) television channel, Prince Naif said security officers would question the man, who is now in hospital, recovering from bullet wounds.
