RIYADH, 21 November 2002 — An unidentified gunman ignited fire at a McDonald’s restaurant in Alkharj yesterday and then fled, the Saudi Press Agency reported quoting the director of police in the Riyadh region. The blaze caused only material damage to the restaurant. Police were looking for the man who walked into the American fast food restaurant in Alkharj, 80 km of south of Riyadh, and pointed a gun at an employee. "The gunman then lit a fire which caused some material damage and fled," the official said. He did not say if anyone was injured and gave no further details. The incident occurred at 11:45 a.m. when the restaurant was likely to have been empty because of the holy month of Ramadan when people were still fasting.
