JEDDAH, 26 November — Many philanthropic events and fund-raising campaigns are under way in Jeddah to mark the holy month. The Islamic Endowment Foundation launched a major campaign at the Hilton Hotel here to raise funds for the Palestinians in the occupied land.
During the campaign, lasting until Dec. 14, donations will be received at the exhibition being held on the sidelines at the Hilton, said Dr. Habeeb Merza, the foundation’s director.
The event began with a heart-rending poem about the tragedy of Palestinian children in the occupied land. The poem was recited by a seven-year-old child, Hosam Al-Shehry, the youngest participant in the event.
An emotional film about the ongoing bloody events and massacres in Palestine was screened on the occasion.
Ibrahim Al-Duwaish, a prominent Saudi scholar and preacher, delivered an inspiring speech urging philanthropists to do their utmost to improve the poor living conditions of Palestinians.
The campaign will include lectures, forums, educational meetings, scientific events, plays, film shows, speeches by prominent scholars and shopping fairs.
About 100 photos depicting the calamities faced by the Palestinians were on display at a photography exhibition being held on the sidelines of the campaign.
