DUBAI, 27 November 2002 — Dr. Abdullah Al-Turki, secretary-general of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), has won Dubai’s prestigious Islamic Personality of the Year prize. Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed ibn Rashid Al-Maktoum presented him the award at a ceremony here on Monday.

A special committee selected Al-Turki, a former minister of Islamic affairs, for the award in appreciation of his efforts in the service of Islam during the past 50 years. The award is part of Dubai International Holy Qur’an Prize.

During a meeting with Al-Turki, Sheikh Mohammed said the prize was instituted to promote Islamic services and encourage Muslim youth to read and learn the Qur’an.
