JEDDAH, 28 November 2002 — Vice Consul Jose Jacob inducted the new officers of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers – Western Region Chapter (IIEE WRC SA) in a simple ceremony held at Hotel Sofitel Al-Hamra.
The officers are Melliardine G. Gamet, president; Efren S. Carlos, vice president for internal affairs; Jerene B. Talam, VP for external affairs; Rodolfo S. Orteza, VP for technical affairs; Edwin R. Apacionado, secretary; Rommel S. de Leon, assistant secretary; Antonio E. Patricio, Jr., treasurer; Wilson L. Malabanan, assistant treasurer; Nilo M. Viray, auditor; Gerardo D. Dimaunahan, assistant auditor; and Zenal P. Dandamun, PRO.
Also sworn into office were area coordinators Rolando M. Manipol, Ronaldo Z. Villar, Juaid B. Saripada, Diosdado N, Gerona, and Manolo G. Baxa, for Jeddah, Yanbu, Taif and Makkah, South, and Shoaiba respectively.
IIEE is one of the most active professional organizations in Jeddah, with more than 290 members. In 2001, the national chapter in Manila recognized IIEE as the "Most Outstanding IIEE Overseas Chapter."
New president Gamet said they are now preparing for the electrical engineers licensure examinations scheduled in October next year. "By February we will conduct orientations. Then by April we should be able to start the review classes, all for free," said Gamet.
The IIEE chapter in the Western Region, has one of the highest passing rates in the board exams.
According to Gamet, in October 2001, the last time the board exams were administered in Jeddah, they a registered 70 percent passing rate in the Professional Electrical Engineer category, 60 percent in the Registered Electrical Engineer exams, and 50 percent in the Registered Master Electrician exams.
Apart from providing continuing education to its members, the chapter also helps others through its scholarship program. This year, it has two scholars taking up electrical engineering at the Technological Institute of the Philippines in Manila and Quezon City.
