RIYADH, 2 December 2002 — Saudi Telecom has auctioned off appealing mobile phone numbers for figures in excess of SR280,000, Al-Eqtisaadiah daily said.
Three wealthy Saudi businessmen shelled out between 140,000 and 285,000 for four numbers all made up of the same digits. But it did not reveal the pre-paid card numbers such as 11111111 and 22222222.
Affluent Arabs in Dubai have also forked out a sheikh’s ransom for “distinguished” car number plates. The emirate’s government raked in more than $12 million auctioning off sought-after single and double-digit number plates last year. (AFP)
