JEDDAH, 3 December 2002 — NEC Computers International (NECCI), the fourth largest manufacturer of personal computers worldwide, claims that by 2004 it will be among the Top 5 players in the Middle East’s growing server market. The company has launched a fault tolerant server specifically designed for medium-sized companies in the region, as well as remote branches of large enterprises. Development of the Express5800/ft server is the result of close cooperation between NECCI and Intel. The server retails for 55,000 dirhams. The new server is expected to be popular in bank branches, shopping malls, call centers and other locations where mission critical application require continuous availability. According to NECCI, the number of server units installed in Saudi Arabia will almost double in the next two years to over 34,000, a five-fold increase since the year 2000.
