CAIRO, 17 November 2003 — Egypt’s Misr International Bank (MIBank) yesterday reported a 57 percent fall in year-on-year net profit for the first nine months of 2003 but said banking was doing well despite a weakening currency. MIBank posted net profit for the period to Sept. 30, 2003 of 66.73 million Egyptian pounds ($10.8 million), within a range suggested by three analysts of 39.75 million to 74.7 million pounds. The bank, Egypt’s second largest private bank in terms of assets, reported net profit of 153.65 million pounds in the same nine-month period a year earlier.
