DAMMAM, 17 November 2003 — Loren Legarda-Leviste, Philippine Senate majority floor leader, will visit the Kingdom next month to meet with the Filipino community.
Legarda had been invited to grace the Filipino Community Day organized by the Saudi Arabia Hiligaynon Inc. (SAHI), which is to be held on Dec. 5 at the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad Amusement Park in Halfmoon Bay, Dammam.
SAHI past president Delfin Legarda told Arab News that the senator had already confirmed verbally to him by phone last week that she is considering SAHI’s invitation for the event, which also marks the observance of the OFW month every December.
Loren Legarda was the fourth senator to be invited by the group since SAHI organized the Filipino Community Day celebration in Dammam in 1994. In 1997, they invited former Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago. Last year, Senate President Franklin Drilon and Sen. Robert Jaworski were the special guests of SAHI.
Delfin Legarda said forums with those seeking high office at home would give OFWs a chance to listen to their view and plans, so that they can make a wise decision come election time.
