MUSCAT, 19 November 2003 — The Omani government has signed five projects worth $57 million aimed at overcoming water shortages in various parts of the sultanate.
The projects, signed by Sheikh Suhail ibn Mustahil Shimas, minister of housing, electricity and water, are part of a government campaign to improve the living standards of citizens in the most remote areas of the country.
According to Said ibn Muhammad Al-Nabhani, director general of water at the ministry, the first agreement provides for water supply to Bidbid and Sumail districts in Dakhliya region. “The project involves supply and installation of water pipes from Muscat to Fanja, Bidbid and Sumayl and construction of pumping stations, tanks and tanker points.”
