KARACHI, 14 December 2003 — President Gen. Pervez Musharraf yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over delay in the completion of development projects of the Tameer-e-Karachi program due to lack of coordination. He directed officials supervising the program to speed up work by removing bottlenecks.
Work on all remaining projects under the 29-billion-rupee program should be started in three months, the president said while chairing a high-level meeting attended by Sindh Gov. Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammed Mahar and Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Tariq Wasim Ghazi, among others. He also ordered that all big projects be implemented in the shortest possible time, without compromising on quality, and funds released expeditiously.
“I would not tolerate shifting of responsibility from one department to another,’’ the president said, and asked Sindh Chief Secretary Mutawakal Kazi to coordinate between different departments and monitor progress. Musharraf thanked stakeholders for financing the projects. They include the Karachi Port Trust, Pakistan Steel Mill, Pakistan International Airlines, Civil Aviation Authority, Bin Qasim Port and Export Promotion Bureau.
