JEDDAH, 17 December 2003 — Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, will inaugurate the annual heritage and culture festival in Janadriya, some 45 km north of Riyadh, today, the Royal Court said in an announcement yesterday.
A musical show titled Areen Al-Assad, spotlighting the Kingdom’s political and social development, will be a major attraction on the opening day. It is written by Prince Khaled ibn Saud Al-Kabir with music by Muhammad Al-Mugheed.
Well-known Saudi singers Muhammad Abdu, Muhammad Omar, Abdul Majeed Abdullah and Khaled Abdul Rahman will present the 50-minute show directed by Fatees Baqna. Some 730 people including 20 children and 10 folklore troupes will take part in the show.
Some 1,500 participants from the Kingdom and other Gulf Cooperation Council states will compete in a camel race starting off the festival.
