JEDDAH, 8 March 2004 — The Interior Ministry identified a suspect killed in a shootout with police on Monday, saying he was wanted on criminal charges. A ministry official named the Saudi as Abdul Rahman ibn Naif Al-Sahli Al-Harbi. Another suspect wounded in the clash was identified as Abdullah ibn Ghallab Al-Sahli Al-Harbi.
“Both of them were wanted for criminal activities and belonged to a misguided group,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted the official as saying. The clash took place in an eastern Riyadh neighborhood after police stopped a suspicious vehicle with stolen number plates.
The two do not appear on the list of the 26 most-wanted suspects issued in December following a series of suicide bombings targeting residential compounds that killed 52 people in May and November 2003. The list is down to 22 names.
