Telling the truth is the key to solving problems. Withholding truth and denying problems only makes matters worse. Today, our nation is faced with an extremely complicated situation. Wherever we look, there is confusion. One big issue is the one known as the Greater Middle East Initiative. So far we do not even know what it looks like or what it really means. It was announced by President George Bush, whose father earlier launched a similar controversial project known as the New World Order. At first we looked at globalization with fear. Since then Bush the father has gone but globalization is here to stay — and we are still waiting for someone to give us a clear explanation exactly what globalization means.

We don’t know yet if we are in or out of the game. And before we have got used to one thing, another arrives on the scene. The Middle East initiative is being forced on us without our knowing anything about it. They said it was up to us to accept it and that the US was not going to impose it.

There are those who tell you it is all about democracy, human rights and women’s rights. Others will say the real objective is to pave the way for Israel to be integrated into the region. Some say the objective is economic and that America wants to drain the wealth of the region. Still others will tell you that having failed in Iraq, the Americans are seeking to divert attention from their failures and the massacres they are committing there. For some, it was a slip of the tongue by some American officials who, regretting what they said, have begun looking for a way out. For some, it is no more than an Israeli plot to change the region’s educational curriculum and textbooks, its demographic and even architectural setup, not sparing roads, bridges and tunnels so that all of them conform to Western standards.

The one thing that all those analysts agree on is that the project is bad, dangerous and unacceptable. If allowed to materialize, it will destroy the nation. This brings me back to the beginning of the article. We must realize that something is being prepared for us in the dark and there are indeed American and Western designs on us and the region. To deny this means our eyes are closed to what is there for all to see. They are pressing their objectives, but we believe and trust in Almighty Allah and have faith in our leadership. In the end, we will prevail.
