BURAIDAH, 20 April 2004 — A private hospital in Buraidah was responsible for a pregnant woman going into a coma and the death of her unborn baby, according to a report in Al-Jazirah newspaper.
The woman’s husband accused the doctor of performing a caesarean section on his wife without permission rather than waiting for her to deliver the baby naturally, and of doing so to earn more money. The woman went into a coma while the baby died as a result of injuries to the uterus.
She was transported to the general hospital where she remains in a coma.
“When I arrived at the hospital, they asked me to sign a paper to authorize the caesarean section. When I signed the paper, I found out that my wife was already being transported to the general hospital,” the husband said.
