RIYADH, 21 April 2004 — The OFW Congress in Riyadh has elected community leader Alex Veloso Bello as the new president of its executive council during elections held recently at the Al Mutlaq Hotel here.
"Under my watch, I hope to make OFW Congress a more revitalized forum in which fellow overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can discuss and resolve issues of common concern," Bello said.
Also elected were directors were Macario Escobar, in charge of government relations; Dr. Muhammad Ali Carlito Astillero, education; Habib Batua, Islamic affairs; Bioux Manilum, social affairs and emergency assistance; Florencio Coronado, sports; Magdalena Perez, culture and entertainment; Dr. Clemencia Montecillo, women; Allan Macabangkit, youth; Jose B. Badong, legal affairs; Manuel Lector, media and information; Antonio Apolto, community relations; and Rene Layug, external relations.
The OFW Congress was an active participant in the worldwide campaign to allow overseas Filipinos to vote in national elections in the Philippines.
