MADINAH, 28 April 2004 — Following a hit-and-run incident in Madinah, a local man has discovered that he has AIDS.
Al-Madinah Arabic newspaper reported that Hassan Fattah Al-Haraza was crossing the street when he was hit by a high-speed car and sent flying 30 meters. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of King Fahd Hospital where he spent over a month undergoing numerous operations on his severe head injuries. Blood tests revealed that Al-Haraza was HIV-positive. However, his wife and children have not tested positive for the virus.
A cousin of the patient, Ayman Basha, criticized the hospital’s handling of the situation. “They transferred my cousin in a bus to Jeddah in the hope of finding a hospital that could accept his case, eventually ending up at King Saud Hospital. How could they transfer an AIDS patient in a serious condition by bus? Who gave the patient permission to leave the hospital in this condition? He cannot even walk properly.”
Ayman also offered the opinion that his cousin had contracted the HIV virus after getting a tattoo done with an infected needle.
