DOHA, 3 May 2004 — Air traffic climbed about 10 percent in the first quarter of the year over the same period of 2003, putting the industry back on track, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said yesterday. “The industry is on track to outperform our forecast of 6.9 percent growth in passenger volumes over 2003 levels,” IATA Director General Giovanni Bisignani told the Global Travel and Tourism Summit in Doha. Passenger traffic grew 9.6 percent over the first three months of 2003 while freight surged 10.1 percent.
