JEDDAH, 4 May 2004 — Customs authorities have foiled an attempt by four Iraqis to smuggle 39 machine guns into Saudi Arabia, Al-Watan newspaper reported. The customs at Al-Raqie border entry point seized the machine guns and handed them over to police. Fines of SR200,000 were imposed on the smugglers. Customs officials also seized 9,520 bottles of liquor from a transport company. The company was fined SR153,000.
