RIYADH, 5 May 2004 — Saudi Arabia is to sign a security agreement with Poland by which the two countries will exchange experience in combating terrorism and organized crime.
“The draft agreement for the security accord has been finalized in Warsaw,” Polish Ambassador Adam Kulach announced at a dinner reception on Monday to mark the anniversary of Poland’s constitution and its accession to the European Union. A one minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the members of the Saudi security forces and expatriates who died in the terrorist attacks in Riyadh and Yanbu.
The Kingdom will be the first country in the Middle East to enter into an agreement with Poland on security matters. Poland has similar agreements with most EU countries, Turkey and India. “Another major development in bilateral relations is the Saudi Polish Company which will soon be set up in the Kingdom,” Kaluch said.
Speaking about his country’s entry to the EU, Kulach said Poland also hoped to build new avenues of cooperation between the EU and the GCC. He said a delegation from the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce & Industry would visit Warsaw this month to identify new areas of cooperation in the field of trade.
Minister of Transport Jobara Al-Suraisri visited Poland last week to discuss infrastructure development.
