RIYADH, 15 May 2004 — Prince Faisal ibn Salman, chairman of Saudi Research & Marketing Group, recently launched his book “Iran, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf: Power Politics in Transition” at the Reform Club in London.
The launch was organized by his publisher I.B. Tauris, an international publishing house specializing in Middle Eastern, Arab and Islamic affairs.
The book, which is based on Prince Faisal’s doctoral thesis at Oxford University, covers the period beginning 1968 when the British government announced its decision to withdraw its forces from the Gulf.
Prince Faisal told guests of the difficulties he experienced getting access to sources for the book as neither Iran nor other countries in the region have a freedom of information act.
However, “the author cites a number of hitherto unknown official sources,” I.B. Tauris Chairman Iradj Bagherzade said. “He also interviewed a number of important political players in the region.”
The book focuses on the relations between Iran and Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia.
The function was attended by Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Mustafa Othman Ismail, Saudi Ambassador to Britain Prince Turki Al-Faisal, and others.
