His passion for photography began with foreign magazines his father brought him from abroad. The pictures appealed to him and soon he found himself looking closely at them and trying to understand why they were so fascinating. Little by little he came to believe that he too could take such pictures of the world around him with the same ability and talent as seen in magazines. When his father asked him, "What do you want me to bring you?" he answered without hesitation, "I want a camera."
That was the beginning of Kam'aan Al-Kam'aan's art of photography and the camera that stayed with him for more than 15 years. During those years, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal named him best photographer due to his services in the Kingdom with regards to environment, tourism and the country's heritage. In addition, he is one of the youngest photographers to have won many awards. Despite the acclaim, he is not satisfied and says he wants to be recognized as the world's No. 1 photographer.
Kam'aan Al-Kam'aan has specialized in photographing extreme sports such as mountain climbing, parachuting, mountain cycle races and parasailing. He has put himself at risk to photograph extreme sports genuinely capturing and carrying the feeling to those looking at the pictures. That alone, however, is not the rule for a successful photograph. Kam'aan points out that the right angle, with the right perspective, is what makes a photograph unique and different from all others. In his opinion a beautiful and memorable photograph depends on the angle. Obviously not every photographer has the ability to make the right choice. Furthermore Kam'aan does not consider photography to be a hobby but a profession and his passion. And that is why he strives to distinguish himself in the world of photography away from typical and traditional photographs.
Despite his 15 years of taking photographs, he admits that he has no time to participate in individual or collective exhibitions. He is, however, preparing a book of his photographs and also a website to display his most beautiful and most challenging work. Regarding the standard of photography in the Arab countries, Kam'aan says that it has not yet reached the level in Western countries and he feels that is due to our society's short-sighted view of photography.
