MANAMA, 1 June 2004 — A 36-year-old Saudi was killed and two of his brothers slightly injured here when their Caprice Classic hit a roundabout, the sidewalk and a flag post before overturning multiple times early yesterday morning.
Ali Amer Salim Al-Kutheery suffered severe head and chest injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Salmanyia Medical Complex. Al-Kutheery, a teacher, was thrown out of the car, and early investigation suggests he may have been crushed by the overturning car. His 36-year-old brother Ahmed who was driving the car was trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters were able to free Ahmed, who works for a private company, in less than six minutes. Their younger brother Abdullah, 18, who was riding in the back seat, suffered minor injuries. Ahmed and Abdullah were rushed to the hospital where they were treated and later released. All three are from the Dammam area and were on their way home when the accident occurred at 1.45 a.m.
According to the initial accident report, Ahmed failed to see the roundabout because he was driving too fast. The car left skid marks and tumbled for over 125 meters before coming to a stop.
