RIYADH, 3 June 2004 — The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has granted affiliation to the Riyadh-based International Indian Public School (IIPS-SEVA) following an assessment of SEVA’s academic standards, infrastructure and faculty. The granting of the affiliation was announced during SEVA’s annual day celebrations. Ambassador Kamaluddin Ahmed was the chief guest.
Abdul Hadi Al-Shelaikhi, assistant director of foreign education at the Ministry of Education and Prof. Mohammed Al-Turaiki, president of the Islamic World Council on Disability and Rehabilitaion (ICDR), were guests of honor at the event. On the second day, Syed Ahmed Ziauddin, senior vice-president of Saudi Hollandi Bank, was the chief guest.
Ambassador Ahmed said: “I am happy to note that the SEVA school is open to children of special needs from different nationalities”. He added: “I will look into the possibilities of getting additional financial support from the (Indian) government”. Dr. Mukhtar Khan, chairman of SEVA school managing committee, said the CBSE affiliation, effective from April 2004, will provide accreditation and recognition to the certificates issued by SEVA.
The CBSE also appoints territorial study teams to conduct regular inspections. Dr. Mukhtar said that the present strength of the school exceeds 750. including the students enrolled with Special Care Center. The chairman also acknowledged the donation of rehabilitation equipment to SEVA by Professor Al-Turaiki.
On the second day of the event, the annual report of the school was presented by Nayyar Syed, vice chairman of the school managing committee.
