RIYADH, 8 June 2004 — The body of an Indian perfume seller believed to have committed suicide was found washed ashore in Bahrain near the King Fahd Causeway, where it had drifted from Saudi waters.
The man, identified as Kishore Kumar Kombath, had gone missing from his Riyadh home on May 15, according to sources.
Friends and relatives of the man traveled to Bahrain to complete the formalities for cremation according to Hindu religious customs.
“Kombath’s brother told the Indian Embassy about the incident, and our mission has already sent an advisory to the Indian Embassy in Bahrain to ... facilitate the cremation.”
Kombath, 38, had run a perfume shop in Riyadh for 12 years, according to friends.
The Indian Embassy in Manama confirmed the body was recovered in Bahraini waters.
Kombath’s friends believe he may have committed suicide because of severe financial problems.
“Kombath was under tremendous pressure and depression and he was upset over the whole situation,” they say.
According to K.G. Suresh of the Manama embassy, “Kombath’s family said that they do not have the strength to see the dead body and have given permission to cremate it in Bahrain.”
Kombath leaves behind his wife Kishori and seven-year-old daughter, Supridha.
A survey conducted in cooperation with seven Asian diplomatic missions in Riyadh reveals that incidence of suicide among Asian workers is rising, with some 60 suicides reported every year.
Businessman’s Body Found
Police and relatives say a dismembered body found by a shepherd in Naada village in the Asir region belonged to a businessman, Okaz reported yesterday. The shepherd said he was shocked to discover the body while tending a herd of sheep. Police found a dagger beside the body which they believe was his own.
The businessman’s sons have asked authorities to carry out a post-mortem to establish the cause of death. Okaz said the businessman left his house with SR15,000 two weeks ago. The investigation continues.
