JEDDAH, 8 June 2004 — Jeddah Mayor Abdullah Al-Muallami wants the private sector to develop four satellite towns around the city.
He was addressing the first Real Estate Forum at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Saturday night. “This is a gathering in order to have a dialogue between the municipality and the business sector and to share ideas and thoughts and programs about the development of Jeddah in all sectors,” the mayor told Arab News.
The municipality aims to reduce pressure on Jeddah. Four locations, between 25 and 50 kilometers from Jeddah — Usfan, Tuwail, Al-Shuaib, and Bahrah — have been suggested for development as complete communities with transport, roads, schools and hospitals.
He said it was for the private sector to come forward to start development, while the government could provide loans through real estate funds. Saud Ounallah, JCCI’s general director, said the forum could become an annual event.
