RIYADH, 18 June 2004 — BBC correspondent Frank Gardner remained in critical but stable condition at a Riyadh hospital yesterday, 11 days after he was shot by suspected terrorists in the Al-Suwaidi neighborhood.
Gardner, whose Irish cameraman was killed in the June 6 attack, is “still critical but stable” in the intensive care unit of King Faisal Specialist Hospital, a British Embassy spokesman said.. His wife, Amanda, said after flying here from London a week ago that he was fighting hard for his life.
Details about his progress after undergoing surgery at least twice are not being made public.
Cameraman Simon Cumbers, 36, and Gardner, 42, were shot while on a reporting mission in Al-Suwaidi where security forces regularly raid hideouts of suspected Al-Qaeda extremists.
