JEDDAH, 20 June 2004 — Another Filipino school has began operations in Jeddah, and the people behind it hope to give rivals a stiff competition.
Named Sunrise International School (SIS), the fourth school in Jeddah to teach the Philippine curriculum is located near Baladiah Street in Azizia district.
The school is operated by the newly organized OFW Family Cooperative in partnership with Saudi educator Dr. Abdullah Al Quraishi.
A press statement from the school management said SIS has a license issued by the Saudi Ministry of Education (license # 92/S), and it is “duly recognized by the Philippine Commission of Filipino Overseas (CFO) and the Department of Education (DepEd).”
As a come-on, Sunrise is offering a “reasonable and affordable” tuition fee of 375 riyal per month, plus the usual discounts extended for their subsequent children, said the press statement.
The principal of the new school is Ofelia Laguardia, a veteran teacher in Jeddah.
Registration is still going on although the normal classes from all levels, pre-elementary to high school has already started since June 14, said the same press statement.
The OFW Family Cooperative is chaired in an interim capacity by community leader, Wenfred Castolome, a mainstay of the OFW Cooperative Council.
The school’s Board of Directors include Romeo “Boy” Buayan, Ruben Atienza, Luis Santos, Maria Lineses, Manuel Laguardia Sr., Anilo Supelana and Shamsuddin Junaidi.
