COTABATO CITY, 24 August 2004 — The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) denied reports quoting spokesman Eid Kabalu as saying that the scheduled peace talks this week has been postponed due to clashes which occurred on Aug. 18 in Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao between MILF fighters and soldiers under 37th IB that resulted in the death of an army sergeant and the wounding of 9 others.

Kabalu said there is nothing to postpone as the date of exploratory talks has yet to be set by the Malaysian government, they being the official mediator in the ongoing GRP-MILF peace talks.

He said that the GRP and MILF panels have agreed in principle to resume formal peace talks after the yet to be schedule exploratory talks.
