Jeddah-Based Poet Releases New Book

JEDDAH, 28 August 2004 — Renowned Pakistani poet Mohsin Alwi’s third collection of poetry “Charag-e-Jaan” was released in Karachi recently by the Art Council of Pakistan.

Sarshar Siddiqui, a poet and general secretary of the Sindh chapter of the Writers’ Guild of Pakistan, presided over the function. Critic and poet Sehar Ansari was the chief guest. Speakers at the function commended Alwi for his contribution to the enrichment of the Urdu language.

“Charag-e-Jaan” was Jeddah-based Alwi’s third book, which followed his “Dareecha-e-Dil” and “Waraftagi.”

Professor Dr. Neloofer Sultana Hashmi presented a shield to Alwi on behalf of Mera Ghar Welfare Association for his services to the Urdu language. Poets and critics including Amir Qidwai, Professor Ishaq Ather Siddiqui, Aijaz Rehmani, Ahsan Kakarwi and Ather Abbasi paid tributes to his incisive style and appreciated Alwi’s efforts to highlight the problems Muslims all over the world are facing.
