RIYADH, 11 September 2004 — A multi-sector trade mission will leave Riyadh tomorrow to participate in the security-related Auto-ID (Automatic Identification) exhibition to be held in Tokyo from Sept.14 to 17.
Yoshitaka Nakamura, director general of the Riyadh office of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), told Arab News that the domain of automatic identification technology is growing in significant areas such as computing, traceability and medical support.
Accordingly, this mission is significant for government officials and the business community in preventing control of entrance and exit of the people, immigration and passport control, Haj, Umrah, military bases and hospitals for the security and hygiene control. He said that in addition to the IC tag, biometrics technology can be used to record and control the personal data of the movement of people.
Nakamura said the visit of the Saudi mission is in line with the recommendations of the Fifth Saudi-Japan Business Council joint meeting, the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce (CSCCI) and JETRO Riyadh office in collaboration with Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME). According to the JETRO executive, one of the most distinctive functions of Auto-ID is traceability.
By using IC tag, senders can trace movement of their products from the point of origin to its final destination. The products on display also include bar code, a fundamental automatic identification technology, two-dimensional symbol, RFID, IC and magnetic card as well as biometrics (signs, voice, fingerprints, palm forms, retina, facial features, etc.) OCR, image recognition, and systems and applications that integrate such technologies.
