RIYADH, 13 September 2004 — A doctor at Houtah Sudair hospital seemed to be jumping the gun in pronouncing patients dead, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported. In the latest incident, the patient was an elderly woman suffering from hemorrhage. According to the woman’s nephew, he received an urgent phone call from the doctor asking him to bring him a certain file concerning details about the patient. On his way to the hospital he got another call from the doctor saying his aunt was dead. When he arrived at the hospital the nephew went straight to the morgue where he was informed that his aunt’s corpse had not arrived. So he searched for the doctor only to be shocked again when he told him that he had made a mistake and that his aunt was not dead after all. The nephew fainted at the news and when he came to, the doctor was nowhere to be found. What made matter worse was that the nephew was told that this was the second time this doctor had prematurely “killed” a patient.
